Dear ...
I am extremely alarmed that violent and cruel organised events, in particular rodeos are supported by our State Governement. Video evidence of extreme suffering and cruelty is publicly available on a website www.norodeo.org — all taken at recent South Australian events.
Public funding supports the organisation of these hideous events. The government has given $18,000 to the Marrabel rodeo alone over the past four years, as well as providing rare, expensive paramedics, ambulances and police to curb excessive violence. All provided to a bunch of amateurs who seek thrills and fame for picking up baby animals by their skin and slamming them to the ground; lassoing their necks and reefing them off their feet; violently twisting necks to force them backwards over and onto their heads. Then there's the simpletons who risk their lives, independence or livelihoods to ride a large terrified and tortured animal.
This is NOT how to spend our taxes! I am urging you to have rodeos banned in our State.
To view this activity as a ‘sport’ is sick. How can the government allow animals to be tortured for entertainment and possibly 'prize money'? Children attend these events and learn that violence to animals is not just okay but funny. Crowds who laugh and applaud this cruelty is a clear sign of a sick and dangerous community. Children do not discriminate. By promoting animal cruelty to children, they do not learn that violence is unacceptable behaviour.
I am relying on you to ensure these events are banned in South Australia for good. |

Dear ...
As a concerned member of the public and parent, I urge you to please act to have cruel rodeos banned in South Australia
I have viewed video footage on the www.norodeo.org website, read vet’s reports, and seen the interviews on Channel 7 & Channel 10. The cruelty inflicted on both the animals and humans (a woman was blatantly assaulted for filming animal abuse whle the crowd cheered) is of great concern.
These acts all occur in a public arena where there are children watching and everyone cheering…in the name of sport!! The screwed up psychology behind these events is teaching our future generation violence.
I grew up in the country, so I am no stranger to these and other acts of animal and environmental assaults. And I vehemently dispute the Minister for Animal Welfare's comment that 'rodeos are a valuable link between city and country lifestyles', they are not! This very statement drives us apart. Rodeos are organised violent blood sport events and have nothing to do with agriculture, far from it. No farmer openly treats his animals in that manner it's absolutely disgusting!
Please act to have rodeos banned in this State, to restore and protect our humanity. |

Dear ...
I write to express alarm of John Hill’s lack of interest and competence with the animal welfare portfolio you have entrusted to him. How can animal suffering and abuse be legal entertainment here in South Australia in the 21st century? I specifically refer to rodeo events, which are breeding grounds for violence, promoted by cheering crowds in anticipation of injury and gore.
Rodeos must be banned, they are a dispicable blood sport which eats into the public purse, sucking up valuable health and emergency services. Having police, ambulances and paramedics on standby for silly fools who risk their lives, independence and livelihoods to show off for 8 seconds on a large tortured animal is not how I expect my taxes to be spent. That $18,000 of government funding has been given to the Marrabel rodeo alone is an absolute disgrace!
Futhermore, it is offensive that the Minister’s senior advisor, Dr Deborah Kelly could possibly frequent rodeos for enjoyment. It would raise doubts of the integrity of the Government's Office of Animal Welfare.
These cruel events have no place in modern society, they are clearly violent and promote it on every level! A rodeo cowboy assaulted a woman at a South Australian event early this year for filming animal abuse. A video clip of this assault and countless others of extreme animal abuse and suffering are posted on a website www.norodeo.org. This all occured at South Australian rodeos. This is absolutely shameful, I ask you to please bring an end to these cruel events and restore South Australian's faith and pride in our State.
Please take serious action to stamp out animal cruelty by abolishing outrageous violent rodeos. People who have no empathy or respect for animals, have none for humans either.
Yours sincerely

Dear ...
As a concerned member of the public I wish to draw to your attention the continuation of abuse to animals at rodeos.
As [my local member/Premier/Minister for Sport/Police/Animal Welfare] I am urging you act immediately to have rodeos banned. It is sick that people hurt animals for their entertainment and to make money. Children attend these events and learn that violence to animals is not just okay but viewed as funny and encouraged in the name of ‘entertainment’. The psychology behind this is sick and dangerous.
The people running these events have become so immune to the cruelty that they do not view any harm is being done; that is why they need someone outside of the events with the power to view the evidence and put a stop to it forever. We would not condone our children to be zapped with electrical voltage, so why do we think it is okay for animals? The pain and discomfort inflicted on these animals is factually evident in the increasing amount of video coverage. If you are not convinced of any pain being inflicted I advise you do some thorough research very quickly.
I urge you to act on this and ban rodeos immediately. |

Dear Mr Hill
I write to you once again to express grave concerns of the government’s lack of interest in rodeo cruelty.
This is a serious issue. Cruelty to animals lends an association to other forms of societal violence and crime. As you are aware the RSPCA is prosecuting the organisers for the 2004 Marrabel Rodeo for the mistreatment of animals and many breaches to their permit conditions.
Many other rodeos are also being investigated for similar cruelty charges. This is a clear case that rodeos are inherently cruel and must be banned.
You must not grant rodeo permits when there is video evidence of gross treatment of the animals. You should not endorse the spending of our taxes in this way. Are you aware of your title of Minister of Animal Welfare? What has your office done to protect the welfare of animals? Is the fact that rodeos are banned in ACT and part banned in Victoria saying something? They will be banned Australian wide. Are you going to lead the way?
Funny, you can discriminate about a dog not being fed, but seem quite comfortable with bulls and horses prodded with voltage Vets’ deem as life threatening; or baby animals picked up by their skin and smashed to the ground causing immense suffering and internal hemorrhaging. Don’t you find this a little hypocritical?
Then there was the assault of Janet Allan by the young cowboy at the 2005 Marrabel Bull Ride. These ego driven simpletons who risk their lives showing off their domination and disrespect for animals have proven their violence is transferred to others in the community.
I am begging you, in the interest of our state, community and future generations to ban rodeos. You have the power to change this and as a community, we desperately need leaders with strength which we can trust.
Yours Sincerely |
